Alvin managed to survive the aileron roll former F-8 Crusader pilot and POW Bob Shumaker executed over the Virginia countryside - barely.  The flight was part of a trip that included a day with Shumaker, the second longest serving POW in Vietnam, and a visit with Texas Congressman Sam Johnson, a former USAF Thunderbird who spent seven years in the Hanoi Hilton and other prisons in North Vietham.  Alvin's fourth book, THE ALCATRAZ ELEVEN (2013) features both men along with nine other POWs who the North Vietnamese singled out as their most dangerous, uncooperative, and subversive POWs.
